Paseo de sa Talaia

Paseo de sa Talaia

We have prepared a new hiking route through one of the most emblematic places of Sant Josep de Sa Talaia. Climb to the top of Sa Talaia, the highest peak of Ibiza with its 475 meters, which will allow us to enjoy the incredible views of our town and a large part of the island of Ibiza and the coast of Formentera. A highly recommended excursion on clear days.

Difficulty: Low-Medium
Distance: 2.40 km.
Estimated time: 1 hour and 15 minutes (one way).
Recommendations: Recommendation: Wear sports shoes, sports clothes and water.

VIEW THE ISLAND FROM ITS HIGHEST POINT...
Although it is an uphill hike, do not worry. The route we propose is quiet with little gradient, at the end, you will only find a slightly steeper area at the end. As you go up, it is advisable to take short breaks, camera in hand and enjoy the surrounding landscape...

paseo sa talaia 1

The walk starts from the church square itself, taking Sa Talaia street, passing in front of Can Jeroni, a cultural centre that periodically offers exhibitions on painting, sculpture and photography. Soon the street becomes a path with native vegetation on both sides and a pine forest. The path is easy to access and runs along the slopes of the mountains surrounding Sa Talaia, with fabulous panoramic views to make the walk more bearable. On a lucky day, there is a chance that a "Jineta" will cross your path. The most exotic mammal of Ibiza. They are very shy and elusive animals that rarely let themselves be seen.

On the first stretch, these are the views you can enjoy, a beautiful rural landscape, Ibizan houses scattered between terraces formed by stone walls, ploughed fields and the forests of the area. We continue the walk until we reach the top, where you will find two incredible viewpoints that dominate a large part of the island and where you can take the best photos.

Cala de Bou and the bay of Sant Antoni

If you stand next to the antenna and look towards the north, you will be able to contemplate: The bay of Sant Antoni, the outline of the village of Sant Antoni, Cap Nonó and the tourist area of Cala de Bou and Port des Torrent. The most interesting time is at dusk to see the sunset.

On the other hand, if you look south, you can see the impressive bay of Porroig, Cala Jondal and the coast of the island of Formentera in the background. Incredible!

To enjoy other views, you have to return the main road, leaving the antenna behind you and next to the esplanade (car park) you will see a small path that goes up to a mound where you can enjoy the most impressive views of the west coast of Sant Josep: from the beach of Cala Bassa to the Platges de Comte, and see the Natural Reserve of the Illots de Ponent. It's breathtaking! On very clear days you can even see the coast of the peninsula (Valencia).

And now it's time to go back! One of those walks that your retina won't forget for a long time...
